The state of emergency in the Czech Republic will last until 23 December 2020. The Andrej Babiš government decided on this further extension at a special meeting on Thursday 10 December 2020 on the basis of prior consent granted by the Chamber of Deputies.

The reason for extending the state of emergency is the ongoing unfavourable epidemiological situation. The number of people infected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the Czech Republic continues to show unfavourable values, which makes it necessary to continue with the government-mandated crisis measures. This is one of the reasons the government extended them today along with the state of emergency. It also adjusted the section (in Czech language) concerning the ban on sale of alcohol „to go“ so that it now concerns drinks poured and prepared on-site, and amended the prohibition of lift and cable car operation so as to explicitly concern ski lifts and cable cars.

Cabinet also approved the provision of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Belarus, the Republic of Kosovo and Montenegro. The government will send these countries personal protective equipment as aid in managing the COVID-19 pandemic – gloves, protective suits, shoe covers, protective goggles and FFP2 respirators worth a combined total of over CZK 17.3 million. The Czech Republic will also cover transporting the material to the target destinations using Czech Army aircraft. The donation to Belarus will be carried out by handing it over to the Czech Red Cross, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to cover the transport costs for the Belarus Red Cross. Transport to Ukraine will be made by land using the Czech Fire and Rescue Service.
